Population Investigation Committee (PIC) established a scholarship fund in 1996, observed that English students have difficulty in obtaining funding for further study beyond the undergraduate level demographics. In 2009, the ESRC and PIC signed a financing agreement for a period of five years to allow for additional scholarships to be offered under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two bodies. The purpose of this scheme is to assist the recruitment and early development of gifted students in the demographics of students by contributing to the cost and maintenance costs. ESRC held a scheme to build capacity in areas of priority for the Council. Ambition in co-funding agreement is to actively improve research capacity in Demography in the UK.
